This year I had the privilege of meeting a wonderful group of First Responders at a Southern California CERT conference. I was a presenter and after the seminar I was introduced to Kathryn Turner. She began to discuss helping people with communication or medical disorders during disasters and emergencies with an easy identification product that she developed. That is how I came to learn about MediPal, which is a personal ID system that wraps around a safety belt, backpack strap or baby bag.
Inside the holder that fastens with velcro is a lightweight form to place essential data – such as contact information, health history, communication preferences and even a photo.
My first thought was WOW this is great for parents to place on their child’s backpacks and belts when their loved one has unique challenges, such as Autism or deafness. It also would be so helpful for adult care facilities during outings. In all honesty, I could probably generate dozens of ways that MediPal could be helpful scores of people! (And although it is meant for people, how great would this be to have a variation for pets who are being transported).
Kathryn will be discussing MediPal, her inspiration for creating this really cool product and announce the contest winners – see below. Join us!
If you are like me you have NO IDEA about the intracacies surrounding mortgages! Frankly, I have relied on “hubby” to help me understand what I “needed” to know about obtaining our various mortgages . I am sure that I am not the only one.
In hindsight, I really wished I had taken the time to learn more about what is involved with obtaining a mortgage (and finance in general). So, to help further my own learning and anyone else who wishes to unravel the mystery of mortgages I have invited this Sunday, August 11, 2013 at 9-ET to the LOUISE SATTLER SHOW LA based mortgage broker, Maria West.
DISCLAIMER: Our guest is a broker from RPM Mortgage. She will only talk in general terms regarding mortgages and home finance.
This show and this blog is NOT to give individual mortgage or financial information or to endorse anyone mortgage or financial institution. Due diligence is needed with each person’s own circumstance. Please seek individual professional advice. Thank you.
But, because we want to entice you to listen and participate in our #giveaway we will give you an early peek in to our secret…

I consider this new format to be a “potpourri” of topics and guests. Each guest bringing their wisdom (and hopefully humor) to the segment. I must confess, I am a bit nervous starting back in radio… but, I am grateful to the people who said they would tune in live or download. (For live listeners simply go to the online radio show on Sunday evenings at 9pm Eastern / 6pm Pacific)
Well, for starters Amy loves animals so much that she writes about them (including having a German Shepherd in her newest book, LOST AND FOUND). Her website is full of age advice , information and even a bit of entertainment! (Check out STRAYS THE MUSICAL) Seriously, Amy is multi-dimensional and fabulous! (Note: I loved how Lost and Found integrated a character with Autism)
Once again I hit the airwaves this Sunday, April 14th in order to delve in to a topic that is of great interest to me.. Helping classroom teachers.
Well for starters, statistics are staggering over the number of teachers who are leaving their profession. Many of the reasons cited have nothing to do with salary but the demands that are placed on teachers which in a short amount of time take an emotional and physical toll.
Years ago teachers had really a handful of simple professional duties. Instruct. Keep the parents as to progress at report card and conference time. Make sure the students get to lunch and to and from the bus on time. Don’t mess up on the fire drill routine.
Today the average classroom teacher is expected to complete all of the above and a myriad of other duties which include being a surrogate parent, law enforcer, special education expert, local implementer oft disaster and emergency plans, counselor, behavioral specialist, etc.
All of this is why I am delighted that Otis Kriegel who wrote the book Everything a New Elementary School Teacher REALLY Needs to Know (But Didn’t Learn in College) will be joining me for this interview. In essence he will share his “pearls of wisdom” for new and seasoned teachers. I hope his incredible knowledge and candor will help keep teachers in the classroom and motivate others to become teachers. See the featured video below to get a taste of Otis’ ability to relate and engage.
I loved the book – it truly is great and I am sure we will discuss the why and how of writing it.
To listen live please join us Sunday, April 14th at 8pET, 5p PT at the 411 VOICES RADIO NETWORK.
I had the pleasure to interview my friend and yoga instructor and trainer of others, Nicole DeAvilla via the 411 VOICES radio network. She is the founder of the 2 MINUTE YOGA and has a very common sense approach to learning yoga. Her USTREAM online YOGA lessons are gaining momentum and worth the watch.
What I learned during our interview is that not all yoga classes or methods of teaching are the same. There is gentle yoga and also “heavy duty sweat it out” yoga (Bikram style). I didn’t know that yoga for kids differs from yoga for adults (the energy levels and intent are the reason). Also, outcomes differ by age group and type of yoga one enjoys. Regardless, Nicole assured us that anyone who has their physicians permission to go forth with a yoga program can benefit as long as the instructor is qualified and the yoga is giving you positive, not negative, physical changes. (Pain is not gain in yoga!)

Please meet a woman who defines the word – CHAMPION, Lisa McManes! Lisa was diagnosed during her early elementary school years as having Hashimoto’s Disease which is an autoimmune thyroid disorder, which among other symptoms, likes to overtake ones’ thyroid leaving the person feeling fatigued and often times overweight.
I had the pleasure of interviewing Lisa on the411 VOICES SPOTLIGHTradio show this weekend. What I learned is that truly “where there is a will.. there is a way!” You can learn throughout the interview about Lisa’s incredible journey of how she lost one hundred pounds, trained and ran a half- marathon, and now helps others through her inspirational speaking and mentoring.
Connect first with Lisa on Facebook as she documents her every step in LISA’S WEIGHT LOSS DIARY. Learn how she inspired others via the RICKI LAKE SHOW. And, be part of her champion team by reaching out with her on TWITTER. I believe that Lisa said it best when she was quoted on the Ricki Lake Show website..
My condition requires me to work harder than others and it is taking me a little longer to get the weight off, but IF I CAN DO IT, ANYONE CAN.
