Imagine gliding through the stunning landscapes of Sedona aboard the Verde Canyon Train, where every twist and turn offers breathtaking views! This four-hour journey may not be overly luxurious, but it is exceptionally well-appointed with a delightful touch of “plush.” Plus, it is a relatively short detour off Route 66 and well worth it!

We rode the train on a Friday afternoon. It left from a town just outside of Sedona – Clarkdale. The railroad company requests passengers to show up 90 minutes before boarding and departure. There is food to purchase at the train depot. AND OF COURSE… there is a gift shop. However, unlike other shops at popular attractions, this one has really nice logo clothing and jewelry!
One aboard the train, you make your way to your assigned seat where a lovely individually packaged charcuterie awaits! (The assortment on the board is both sweet and savory. Definitely not vegan or vegetarian.)
About the Verde Canyon Train on the Track
This train travels very slowly. In fact, I think we rode the train for 4 hours, but only covered 20 miles. The seats are plush, the windows are ample size for photographers, but the “highlight” is riding in the open-air car that offers a 360-degree experience and has a canopy to protect you from the sun.
The BEST part of the train ride is taking in the scenery. There is no shortage of gorgeous trees, red rocks, and river beds. The canyon is simply lovely.
Who Should Travel the Verde Canyon Railroad?
The Verde Canyon Railroad can accommodate just about anyone. There are ramps for easy accessibility for people in wheelchairs. There is signage for people who are Deaf to use for communication. The real challenge is that much is explained by audio narration; however, a book can be requested with almost the same information.
What about large groups!? Well, the Verde Canyon rail is great for family reunions or for good friends who love to travel together. You can even upgrade your experience to renting out the Caboose! (Read more here.).
