Disaster ASL Signs

Fans of SIGNING FAMILIES™ connected with me today. They asked for me to post disaster related signs to assist those who were impacted by recent tornados, flooding and other weather related damage. Of course we will be happy to upload ASL, English and Spanish photos to help First Responders in states such as Alabama and Mississippi assist those who use sign language or Spanish as their primary mode for communication.

Here are the signs in a slideshow presentation.

TORNADO- Rotate your index fingers around each other to simulate the motion of a tornado going around and around
WATER- Move "W" handshape back and forth to the mouth
FLOOD, to make the sign for FLOOD you combine TWO SIGNS. First the sign for WATER and then the sign for RISING WATER. Start with the open "5" handshape and raise it while wiggling the fingers. This mimics the trickling of water
WATER- with W handshape touching lips twice
EMS / PARAMEDIC - make the "P" handshape as demonstrated and draw a plus sign on your upper arm
HELP
HOSPITAL- like EMS/ PARAMEDIC use the "H" handshape and make a "T" with it
CAREFUL- tap wrists twice
CAREFUL- tap wrists twice
WANT- pull hands towards you
WINDY- the more intense the wind, the more one should move their arms quickly and intensely
